2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Fuel Economy
If you caught the Super Bowl this year, or if you simply watched all of the commercials on YouTube afterwards, it’s likely that you remember the Ford commercial surrounding the superior 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid fuel economy rating. If you need a refresher, it was the one that featured comedian Rob Riggle and actor James Franco in seemingly back-to-back ads: one normal 30 second slot, and one double the length and double the awesomeness.
Our only problem with the ad is that it focused more on announcing the fact that the hybrid has “nearly double the fuel economy of the average vehicle,” and less time telling us exactly what that fuel economy rating is. That’s why we have decided it may be helpful to provide you with more of an in-depth look at the Fusion Hybrid and all that the efficient car will offer.
We’ll get right to what matters. The 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid is capable of traveling up to 47 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway. There aren’t many vehicles out there that can pull in almost 50 mpg, but the Fusion Hybrid does it with ease. It also is able to get the same efficiency in the city that it does on the highway, which is extremely impressive.
The increased fuel efficiency stems from all of the systems that are equipped in the hybrid. It all starts with the cutting-edge lithium-ion battery which is located in the back of the Fusion Hybrid so that no interior space is sacrificed. The battery powers the small electric motor which works in tandem with the gas engine to deliver superior efficiency and a net horsepower of 188. When the electric motor is working alone, it’s capable of traveling up to 85 mph.
It’s important to remember that the model we’re discussing here is the hybrid, not the hybrid plug-in. That means you don’t ever have to worry about buying a charging system or cutting your trips short to stop for a quick charge. Instead, the Fusion Hybrid comes equipped with systems that are able to recharge the battery for you. It has a regenerative braking system which captures energy typically lost during braking and coasting, and sends it to the battery. There is no extra work involved in owning the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
