2015 Ford F-150 2.7-Liter EcoBoost Fuel Economy Rating
For quite some time we have been waiting in anticipation for word on what the all-new Ford F-150 will be capable of in the fuel economy department, and finally the wait is over. The redesigned pickup was just recently subjected to tests by the EPA, and not surprisingly, the numbers that it was able to return were quite impressive. That’s especially true for the 2015 Ford F-150 2.7-liter EcoBoost fuel economy ratings.
A short while back, we took a closer look at the unofficial fuel economy ratings, but we now have the actual official ratings. Of all the available engines, we are not surprised to see that the most efficient of them all is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which has just as many cylinders as some of the other options, but that displaces the least amount. As expected, the ratings for the engine are different for the two- and four-wheel drive options, but regardless of configuration, there is no arguing that they are impressive.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings for all engines of the 2015 Ford F-150 (2WD) are as follows:
[table id=5 /]
As you can see, on the highway, the Ford F-150 is able to stretch a tank as far as 26 mpg, which makes the EcoBoost among the most efficient engines in the class. In fact, it’s the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of any gas-powered full-sized pickup. It even rivals the 28 mpg highway rating achieved by the diesel-powered 2015 Ram 1500. With a power to weight improvement of more than 43 percent, it’s clear to see exactly why the F-150 is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after vehicles out there.
As you likely know by now, the improved power-to-weight ratio comes from the all-new aluminum body of the half-ton pickup. Weight has been cut by about 700 pounds, and as we mentioned when taking a look at the 2015 Ford F-150 engine power ratings, and the towing capacities, the engines are able to get a break from pulling the past steel-built bodies and therefore are able to pull more and stretch a tank even further.
