2016 Ford F-150 Raptor Aluminum Body Rumors
The fact that the 2015 Ford F-150 will receive an aluminum body is pretty much common knowledge at this point, but as the best-selling pickup will only be offered with the new lightweight body, we were unsure about the future of trims such as the Tremor and Raptor. Well, we now have a pretty good idea, as there have been a lot of 2016 Ford F-150 Raptor aluminum body rumors floating around, many of which we will address for you right now.
From what we’re gathering, the Ford Raptor will continue to be manufactured, which is extremely good news. However, it appears that Ford is giving their Special Vehicle Team (SVT) a year off to focus their energy on adapting the Raptor to take on the aluminum body. Yes, that’s right. Much like the standard F-150, the Raptor will receive the lightweight yet durable body, which is only expected to increase its already impressive off-road capabilities.
The current model of the Raptor comes equipped with an authoritative 6.2-liter V8 that is able to propel the pickup through sand, gravel and just about anything else in its path, but according to a few different sources, the fearless engine will not be making a return for the 2016 model year. Ford announced a short while back that the engine would be discontinued, which led us to believe that the Ford Raptor would be completely cut from the lineup. Thankfully we were proven wrong.
The aluminum body will decrease the overall weight of the Raptor, and as the V8 makes 411 horsepower, it can afford to ease up a little bit power-wise. The aluminum bodied F-150 is expected to shed 700 pounds from the past steel-built model, and while we’re still unsure about the percentage of aluminum that will be found on the body of the Raptor, we expect the weight decrease to be about the same. If that’s the case, we expect to see a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 taking over the nose of the pickup.
As of right now, we don’t know too much about the 2016 Ford F-150 Raptor other than the fact that it will be produced and that it will take on an aluminum body. We’re just glad to hear that it will be making a return, as we had our doubts about the future of the extreme off-road pickup once Ford discontinued the F-150 Tremor trim after deciding that the smaller pickup wasn’t exactly the best candidate for an aluminum body.
