2016 Ford Focus RS U.S. Release Date
UPDATE: It has been confirmed. The 2016 Ford Focus RS will be getting a U.S. release date. The 320-horsepower AWD hatchback will arrive at dealerships in spring of 2016. Check out the photos below and read more about the 2016 Ford Focus RS here on our blog.
We have some exciting news for all of the Focus RS enthusiasts out there. Although the RS has only been available in Europe, it has been announced that the performance-tuned model may be making its way to the other side of the pond as early as 2016. As of right now the news has not been confirmed, but insiders are saying that the 2016 Ford Focus RS U.S. release date is definitely in the works. The only problem is that it is expected to be quite difficult to get one of the vehicles, as they will have to be imported from Europe, meaning numbers will be low.
A 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine—the same that will be found in the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang—currently lurks beneath the hood of the Focus RS. It provides the hatchback with anywhere from 325 and 350 horsepower, all of which is distributed through a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system that is not currently offered on the Focus that we have grown to love here in the states. With such a great deal of power and AWD, there is no doubting that the Focus RS will be a smash hit as soon as it arrives.
As of right now, the highest level of performance that can be squeezed out of the Ford Focus comes from the ST trim, which shells out 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The EcoBoost is undoubtedly impressive, but it pales in comparison to the power that stems from the RS powertrain. Plus, as the ST is available exclusively as a front-wheel drive model, those who prefer to have power directed to all four wheels won’t be able to have their desires fulfilled until the RS is shipped over.
Ford has always been pretty tight-lipped about information regarding future models, so as we expected, they have neither confirmed nor denied the Focus RS rumors. However, it would only make sense that the performance model will make its way to America. As it stands now, the Focus ST can not compete with vehicles such as the 2015 Subaru WRX STi or the VW Golf R, but that will all change if they actually do import the Focus RS from Europe. The ST could also be more competitive if Ford decides to bring the 2015 Focus ST Diesel stateside.
Once again, we are not positive as to whether or not the Ford Focus RS will be making its way to the U.S. in 2016, but there is an extremely good chance that we will get some confirmation in the near future. If you are interested in learning more about the RS and its journey to the states, be sure to check back here on the Matt Ford blog in the near future. As we said, we will continue to keep you updated with more information as soon as it’s made available. Until then, be sure to read more about more future models.
