There has been a lot of hype surrounding the all-new 2015 Ford Edge, which we are still hoping to see later this year. Ever since the Ford Edge Concept was released later last year, we’ve been excited about getting this model in our new car inventory, and now that spy photos of the crossover SUV are flooding the internet, we have a good feeling that the 2015 Ford Edge release date should be arriving either late this year or early next year.
It was hard not to be excited when the conceptual design of the Ford Edge was released. The Edge, which was first released back in 2006, has gotten a refreshed design for the last eight years, and to be honest, it feels like it has been an eternity. For that reason alone we were excited to hear that the versatile crossover would finally be getting an upgrade—and then we saw the conceptual design and were completely blown away.
The Ford Edge concept, which is pictured above, is undoubtedly attractive, and we are really hoping that it serves as a major inspiration for the production model. There’s a good chance that it will too, as the concept isn’t overdone most conceptual designs. It looks extremely practical, and there is definitely a good chance that the production model will look quite similar.
The real excitement over the concept, however, surrounded Ford’s announcement that the SUV would likely be equipped with autonomous parking, start-stop technology and collision avoidance. If completed by the release date, the advanced systems would likely join the safety systems already available in the Ford Edge such as blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warning.
The autonomous features aren’t likely to be the only new additions to the 2015 Ford Edge. We also fully expect the powertrain options to get a major overhaul. Just about every new Ford model is getting one of the new smaller-displacement EcoBoost engines, and seeing as the engines have been found in powerhouses such as the 2015 Ford Mustang and the 2015 Aluminum Ford F-150, there’s a good chance that the Edge will be getting at least one EcoBoost as well.
We’re still not too sure about what the all-new Edge will contain, but from what we’re gathering the autonomous features and the lineup of EcoBoost engines are basically guarantees. There have been some other rumors floating around about what the crossover will add for the 2015 model year, including talk of a third row of seats, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
As we move closer to the 2015 Ford Edge release date, it’s likely that Ford will begin to release some more official information about what the all-new crossover will offer. As soon as the details are released, you can be sure that we will have them all for you right here on the Matt Ford blog.
