2015 Ford F-150 vs 2015 Ram 1500
Although we have yet to receive the 2015 Ford F-150 here in Kansas City MO, many of the capabilities and capacities of the all-new pickup have already been released. Up until a few weeks ago, it was still difficult to compare the half-ton to some of its competitors as we didn’t know much about what the engine options would be capable of, we only knew of their size and displacement. Now that just about everything but the fuel economy ratings have been announced, comparing the pickup to competitors is a possibility.
For the last 37 years, the Ford F-150 has been the best selling pickup in America. The two runner-ups have always been the Chevy Silverado and the Ram 1500 as they are the most similarly-equipped pickup offerings, but even though the competition has gotten fiercer over the past couple of years, with a closer look at the 2015 Ford F-150 vs 2015 Ram 1500, it’s quite clear to see that the blue oval-encrusted truck is bound to continue its best-selling streak for years to come. Let’s look at what the pickups are capable of.
A short while back we took a look at the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 towing capacity, and as we told you then, the maximum towing capacity for the pickup has been announced at an astounding 12,200 pounds, while the payload, or what it can hold in the bed, is an undoubtedly impressive 3,300 pounds. Seeing as both of the ratings are the best in the class, there isn’t much explanation needed as to why the F-150 is more capable than the Ram 1500, but to show you just how capable it is, just take a look at the Ram 1500.
Even when equipped with its most powerful gasoline engine, the Ram 1500 is only able to take on a V8 payload of 1,800 pounds. Seeing as it’s nearly half of what the Ford F-150 is able to take on, if you plan to put your truck bed through quite a bit of stress, you’re going to want to get yourself the F-150. The same is true if you are after power. As the torque that stems from the Ford F-150 tops out at 387 lb-ft, you can get more twist than you can from the eight-cylinder of the Ram 1500 which falls short at 355 lb-ft.
When it comes to the horsepower department, the hefty V8 engines of the 2015 Ford F-150 and the 2015 Ram 1500 are quite similar. The aluminum-bodied pickup gets an impressive 385 horsepower while the 1500 comes in at 383. What separates the two models is what they are able to do with that power. As we have been saying, despite having nearly identical ratings, the F-150 doesn’t take any power for granted.
If you want to fully experience what separates the 2015 Ford F-150 from the 2015 Ram 1500, you will have to wait until the official release date arrives. However, seeing as the end of the year is fast approaching, it likely won’t be long before you have the ability to get behind the wheel.
