2015 Ford Flex Safety Ratings
For a number of years now, the Ford lineup has been without a minivan offering, but the Ford Flex has filled that void quite well. The seven-passenger SUV has a long body that allows it to deliver the same benefits as a minivan, but it features a one-of-a-kind design that helps you to avoid those soccer mom comments. Despite the fact that it has the space and versatility of a minivan, however, there is no arguing that the 2015 Ford Flex safety ratings are the best minivan-like quality of the full-size SUV.
The Ford Flex was just subjected to various tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and not surprisingly, it was able to return some impressive scores across the board. The scores were at least high enough to give the Ford Flex the coveted Top Safety Pick award, which makes it the fourth Ford vehicle to earn the award. It now joins the 2015 Ford C-Max Hybrid, Focus and Fusion.
One of the reasons that the Flex was able to secure the impressive safety rating is that it has a variety of standard and available safety features. That includes a front-passenger sensing system, safety structure with high-strength steel, a second- and third-row Safety Canopy airbag System with rollover sensors, roll stability control, a post-crash alert system, tire-pressure monitoring, dual and side-impact airbags, and a set of outboard seatbelts in the second row that can be inflated during an accident.
Although the features really do help to make the Flex one of the safest vehicles on the market, it’s worth noting that the majority of them have absolutely no use in the IIHS tests. The only systems that really matter are the most basic ones. That includes the airbags, seatbelts and the frame itself. That is because not every trim has the same features, but when it comes to the basics, they are all identical.
