2015 Ford Focus ST Diesel U.S. Release Date
In 2010, Ford released the third generation of the Ford Focus which quickly rose to popularity and allowed the Focus to become the world’s best-selling nameplate. Since it has been four years, the Focus will be receiving a mid-cycle refresh which will come with a few new changes—including a brand-new diesel engine. Now we’re not too sure if we will see a 2015 Ford Focus ST Diesel U.S. release date, but we will say that there is a chance.
As of right now, the Ford Focus ST Diesel is only set to be released in the European market, and it’s likely that when the performance-tuned Focus arrives here in the states, there won’t be a box to check for a diesel option. For some odd reason, diesel engines in compact cars such as the Focus just hasn’t taken off here, but as they’re extremely popular in Europe, the announcement of the diesel option overseas comes as no surprise.
While consumers aren’t too big on diesel engines in the states, there are a ton of automakers beginning to introduce the powerful and efficient engines under the hood, and many of the vehicles already equipped with them are doing particularly well on the market. Once Americans begin to grasp the advantages and benefits of diesel and demand for the engines rises, there is a good possibility that Ford will bring the diesel engine option to America, but that’s just one of the reasons.
Another reason the Ford Focus ST Diesel is likely to get a U.S. release is that two of the compact car’s top competitors either have or will soon have a diesel option. The Chevy Cruze is already made available with a turbo diesel here in the states, and Volkswagen has made it known that a diesel engine will be coming to their smaller Golf model in the very near future. To remain competitive, Ford will likely have to bring the Focus ST Diesel stateside.
It may pain you to read this next block of information seeing as we won’t immediately be getting the diesel-equipped Ford Focus, but we feel that it needs to be included. The ST Diesel will come loaded with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder which will come turbocharged, allowing it to produce 182 horsepower and a whopping 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine will come mated to the same six-speed manual found in the gasoline version of the Focus ST.
To learn more about the 2015 Ford Focus ST Deisel, including whether or not it will ever receive a release date here in the states, be sure to check back here on the Matt Ford blog where we will be sure to provide you with more information as soon as it’s made available. However, bringing the diesel engine stateside will come with quite the price and Ford is going to want to make sure that its worth their time, so it could be quite a while before we hear anything more on this subject.
