2015 Ford Mustang GT Electronic Line-Lock Feature

Here at Matt Ford, we are already quite excited for the redesigned Mustang to arrive, but the automaker is making us even more anxious, as Ford continues to announce snippets of information about the pony car that are really sweetening the pot. That includes the 2015 Ford Mustang GT electronic line-lock feature, which will come standard on the higher-end trim of the all-new sports car.

Ever since the Mustang first hit the market a little more than 50 years ago, it has been one of the top burnout performers. That fact remains true today, as enthusiasts continue to smoke the tires while listening to the growl of the engine as it builds speed. If this describes you, you’ll be sure to appreciate that the newest electronic line-lock feature will make it easier than ever before to smoke the tires and burnout.

While the line-lock feature was designed with a specific purpose in mind, we have a good feeling that it will be used more for play, rather than work. Ford decided to add the feature to the 2015 Ford Mustang to make it easier for drag racers to warm up their tires in the burnout box. Surprisingly, the Mustang is the first vehicle on the market to come equipped with this simple yet effective innovation.

This is how it all works. The electronic line-lock system uses the hydraulic control unit that is already in place underneath the Ford Mustang for the stability control. When activated, the system locks the front brakes and releases the brakes in the back, allowing the tires to spin freely. One of the neat features about the system is that the driver’s foot doesn’t have to be on the brake pedal in order to work.

Now, before you pick up your 2015 Ford Mustang GT and head to the nearest empty parking lot, there is one thing that you should know. For safety reasons, Ford has made it clear that the electronic line-lock feature is strictly for track use, going as far as to say that “racing your vehicle will void your warranty.”So, definitely something to keep in mind before putting your Mustang through the ultimate test.
