2016 Ford ‘EcoBeast’ Aluminum Raptor Rumors
We have some pretty interesting news about the upcoming Raptor. We just found out today that Ford has trademarked the name “EcoBeast” and although we’re not quite sure if they will be using the name on any of their models or not, we have a pretty good feeling that it will be serving as a new designation for the new aluminum Ford Raptor, which is expected to arrive at some point next year for the 2016 model year.
Ford submitted the trademark last week on December 22. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it’s a play on the word EcoBoost, which is the name given to the efficient and powerful turbocharged engines that keep finding their way under the hood of all of the newest Ford models including powerhouses such as the new F-150 and the redesigned Mustang. With the new name, it’s likely that we will see some extreme power.
This is not the first time that we have seen the name EcoBeast. Enthusiasts of the EcoBoost engines have already coined the term and added both stickers and badges to vehicles equipped with the turbo engines. That includes some of the more powerful options currently in the lineup such as the F-150 and Focus ST.
Seeing as people are already finding ways of getting the EcoBeast decals that they crave, it could also be possible that Ford trademarked the name just so that they can produce their own line of accessories for Ford vehicles equipped with the EcoBoost engines. However, from what we’ve found online, it seems that just about everyone thinks that the Raptor name will be swapped out for the clever new EcoBeast name.
Again, all of the news on the designation of the upcoming aluminum 2016 Ford Raptor are just rumors at this point. To learn more about the company’s final decision on the use for the name, if there is one at all, be sure to check back on the Matt Ford blog where we will be sure to keep you updated.
