2016 Ford Explorer 4-Cylinder Engine Fuel Economy Ratings
A few weeks back, we told you that the Ford Explorer has received a significant upgrade for the 2016 model year, and although we weren’t quite sure what the release date of the revamped SUV was, it was just announced that the 2016 model is now available for sale. That, of course, means that all of the details that we’ve been so patiently waiting for have finally been announced, and of all the specs to be made public, the 2016 Ford Explorer 4-cylinder engine fuel economy ratings are at the top.
As you may already be aware, one of the biggest changes for the 2016 Ford Explorer is the addition of a four-cylinder engine under the hood. Seeing as the full-size SUV takes a lot of power to propel it down the road, and to provide the towing power that you need, it’s no ordinary four-cylinder engine.
The engine is question is a 2.3-liter engine, and if you are familiar with the Ford lineup, you may notice that its size sounds familiar. That’s because it’s the same engine offered beneath the hood of the 2015 Ford Mustang, and despite the fact that it only has a quartet of cylinders, it has the ability to generate 280 horsepower and an astounding 310 lb-ft of torque, giving you the power that you need.
So now that you know a bit more about what the engine can generate in terms of power, let’s get to the news that brought you here. The fuel economy ratings. You’ll be sure to appreciate that although the Explorer produces some serious power, the front-wheel drive version of the SUV has the ability to travel as far as 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, making it undoubtedly efficient. Even the all-wheel drive model is efficient with ratings of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
The second-most efficient of the engine options is the 3.5-liter V6, which comes standard under the hood of the 2016 model. When all power from the six-cylinder engine is directed to the front set of wheels, the Explorer is able to travel as far as 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
For a full-size SUV, there is no arguing that the 2016 Ford Explorer is efficient. If you are interested in testing out that efficiency for yourself, or want to learn more about the changes for the facelifted SUV, we encourage you to get in touch with us here at Matt Ford.
