2020 Ford Performance Vehicles

A short while back, we told you that the Ford Focus RS—a performance-tuned model of the compact car available exclusively in Europe—would possibly be coming stateside. It has now been confirmed that the RS will be getting a U.S. release date, but there is even better news. Ford has announced that they will be making a push for more performance vehicles, and have said that they expect to release “more than 12” models globally between now and 2020.

As up right now, we don’t know much about what Ford has up their sleeve as the Ford Focus RS is still the only model to be confirmed, but we do have a pretty good idea about what is to come. Recent rumors hint to a couple of models that could be in the pipeline, but again, none have been confirmed.

We have already heard that the 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is on its way to market, and with more than 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque stemming from the beefy, high-revving 5.2-liter V8, there is no arguing that the GT350 qualifies as one of the 12. As it’s being labeled as a 2016 model, chances are that it will arrive next year, meaning that it could be the first of the new performance vehicles available.

In addition to the Focus RS and the Shelby GT350, there have been talks of a brand-new F-150 Raptor complete with an aluminum body that will significantly reduce the overall weight of the off-road capable pickup. If the automaker decides to hold onto the insanely powerful 6.2-liter V8, the reduced weight could mean that the all-new Raptor could produce even more than the 411 horsepower output of past models.

Much like the Shelby GT350 and the Focus RS, the aluminum Raptor has been confirmed, and according to Ford product chief Raj Nair, Ford wants to get the performance pickup out as quickly as they can.

This is all great and exciting news. As of right now we only know about the three vehicles that we just mentioned, but as time goes on, the mystery of the remaining vehicles is sure to be uncovered.
