Air Curtains on the 2015 F-150 Reduce Drag

It’s no secret that the 2015 Ford F-150 is by far the most advanced and innovative pickup truck that has ever been built. Ford completely revamped this model for the new 2015 model year by implementing a weight-saving aluminum body that increased both the performance and fuel economy of the truck. However, Ford made some other improvements to the truck that aren’t as well known, but are still very important. One of these ways was implementing some new air curtains on the 2015 F-150 reduce drag. Therefore, we have decided to dedicate this blog post to telling you all about the ways that the new air curtains improve the aerodynamics of the 2015 Ford F-150.

The new 2015 Ford F-150 is by far the most aerodynamically efficient pickup truck that has even been built. Ford has been able to accomplish that in part by using an all-new air curtain feature on the F-150. These air curtains work by using horizontal slits on the top of the headlamps to guide the air through the ducting to openings in the wheel wells.

According to Ford Technical Expert, Rob Lietz, “With the new F-150, an extensive amount of time was spent running aerodynamic simulations and doing wind tunnel tests. Major advances in our computational fluid dynamics capability let us quickly see how we could improve airflow while maintaining the tough truck looks expected from the F-150.”

Ford initially brought this technology to the Mustang before putting it on the F-150 as well. This technology helped the engineers reduce the aerodynamic drag of the truck, which allowed them to achieve the highest fuel economy rating possible. When the Ford F-150 is equipped with the 2.7-liter, EcoBoost, six-cylinder engine it is able to achieve a fuel economy rating of 19 miles per gallon in the city, and an outstanding 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

Linda, PLEASE rethink ordering from Michigan Bulb. They are a terrible company and many, many, people have been ripped off by their great prices and inferior products. Seriously check the ratings for this company and many others a Davesgarden.com.
