All-New 2015 Ford F-150 Engine Power Ratings

For quite some time, we have been covering the newest features of the upcoming 2015 Ford F-150, but as we are now within a few months of the aluminum-bodied pickup’s release date, the automaker has finally announced specifics about what the half-ton will cost, and what it will be capable of. Not surprisingly, the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 engine power ratings are better than we first imagined that they would be.

According to Ford, the 3.5-liter V6, which will come standard under the hood, will deliver 283 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. As it’s the base engine, you likely won’t be surprised to hear that the output is the lowest of all the engines. The powertrain is great if you are looking to purchase the Ford F-150 simply for its style, but if you need some serious towing power, you may be more interested in the other engine options.

The other fresh engine option making its way to the 2015 Ford F-150 is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. Despite the fact that the EcoBoost displaces nearly a liter less than the standard V6, it comes turbocharged, which allows it to produce a great deal of strength. When firing on all cylinders, it will pump out 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of twist which will likely give the EcoBoost-equipped F-150 a large towing capacity.

Power ratings for the other two engine options—the 5.0-liter V8 and the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6—have not been announced yet. Fuel economy ratings for any of the four engines have yet to be announced as well, however, Ford has made it known that the 2.7-liter option will come standard with an automatic start and stop feature which will work in tandem with the EcoBoost technology to increase fuel efficiency.

Of course, the new lightweight aluminum body of the F-150—which is expected to reduce the overall weight of the pickup by nearly 700 pounds—-will also add a great deal to the efficiency ratings of the new pickup. As the fuel economy ratings are among the most anticipated aspects of the redesigned 2015 Aluminum Ford F-150, it’s likely that the automaker will refrain from releasing them until the official release date is made known.
