All-New Ford GT EcoBoost V6 Engine Specs

In December, Ford told the masses that they would be releasing at least 12 new performance vehicles prior to 2020, and now that the Detroit Auto Show has come to a close, we know what three of them will look like and how they will perform. The triple threat of new models are all definitely impressive, but of all the new Motor City debuts, the revived Ford GT was undoubtedly one of the most exciting.

That is because the newest model of the supercar comes not with a V8 as it was expected to, but rather a turbocharged V6. It sounds a bit strange as the GT previously offered an eight-cylinder, but with a closer look at the all-new Ford GT EcoBoost V6 engine specs, its clear to see that the drop in cylinders doesn’t take anything away from the performance of the supercar.

Ford enthusiasts will remember that a production model of the GT came to market a little less than 10 years ago, and although it was one of the top vehicles of the year, it was pulled from production shortly after the first model rolled off the line. However, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford vehicles taking first, second and third place at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, they decided to bring it back to market.

As with past models, the GT engine is placed behind the seats, rather than under the hood. There has been a lot of talk about the mid-mounted engine as falls two cylinders short of expectations, but Ford has said that the engine will be able to produce “more than 600 horsepower.” Official numbers have yet to be released, but as this is the GT we’re talking about, we have our faith in the automaker.

The engine of the GT is an EcoBoost, meaning that it employs twin turbochargers to give it the power of a V8, but with two fewer cylinders, allowing it to achieve far more impressive fuel economy ratings.

Perhaps the greatest news about the all-new Ford GT, however, is not its EcoBoost V6 engine, but the fact that this is one of the 12 promised vehicles to come to market. According to the automaker, the GT will go into production next year, meaning that it will likely arrive later in 2016 and be released as a 2017 model.

We will have more on the official specs before the release date, so be sure to check back on our blog in the near future to learn more about the numbers of the Ford GT. All we can say right now is that we can’t wait to see what this model will be capable of. It has us extremely excited for the remainder of the promised performance vehicles.
