Aluminum 2015 Ford F-150 NHTSA Safety Ratings

Just about every area of the Ford F-150 has been under question since Ford announced that they would be making a switch to a body composed predominantly of aluminum, but the new lightweight pickup continues to prove itself and to silence all of its critics. Most recently, Ford was able to prove that the aluminum body is as capable as the steel body of providing some impressive safety. It was recently subjected to a range of tests, and the aluminum 2015 Ford F-150 NHTSA safety ratings show just how capable it really is.

Although safety scores for the standard regular and extended cab models have yet to be released, the Ford F-150 SuperCrew model had no issues achieving the highest-possible five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If you are unfamiliar with the Ford F-150 lineup, the SuperCrew model is the body style that contains the crew cab. The crew cab offers a slightly larger back seat that makes it ideal for families. The family-friendly aspect is only heightened by the safety ratings.

After being subjected to the NHTSA tests, the Ford F-150 was able to return five star ratings in both the front and side crash tests. It fell one star short in the rollover crash test, but even so, it was awarded the highest-possible safety score, proving once and for all that the aluminum body truly is Built Ford Tough.

The question that begs to be answered, of course, involves the performance of the steel-bodied F-150 in the NHTSA tests. As it turns out, the 2014 model was only able to achieve a four-star NHTSA safety rating. This solidifies the fact that the aluminum body of the pickup is not only as capable as the steel-built models, but that it is more capable. It just goes to show that the move to aluminum was the right one.

With enhanced performance, fuel economy and safety, it really comes as no surprise that the Ford F-150 has already secured a truckload of awards including Motor Trend Truck of the Year and North American Truck of the Year. The awards that the aluminum F-150 has won are seemingly endless, and it doesn’t take much to understand exactly why that is. There is nothing on the market that is quite like it.
