Aluminum 2017 Ford Raptor EcoBoost V6 Engine Specs
Lately we’ve been addressing some of the most wide-spread rumors about the upcoming Ford Raptor on our blog, and as it turns out, just about everything that we had first reported has now been confirmed. The high-performance pickup was just unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, and while the new lightweight body was one of the biggest focuses of the press conference, the engine drew quite a bit of attention as well.
If you’re familiar with the previous generation model of the Ford Raptor, you may recall that in the past, it was offered with an insanely powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine that had the ability to produce as much as 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque, making it overqualified for a number of consumers who simply wanted to take advantage of the aggressive off-road look and could do without the exceptionally massive output.
For the 2017 model year, the V8 has been completely scrapped and will be replaced with an EcoBoost V6, which will come turbocharged—as all EcoBoost engines do—to help it produce V8-like numbers. We still have yet to hear exactly what the official numbers will be, but if the 600-horsepower EcoBoost V6 engine of the Ford GT is any indication, the upcoming Raptor could be even more powerful than previous models.
Ford has been making a push for increased efficiency and reduced emissions, and by switching out the V8 for the new turbo V6 is a great way of doing just that. Another aspect that is sure to help the cause is the new body of the Raptor. Much like the Ford F-150 that it is based on, the Raptor will be getting an aluminum body for the 2017 model year, helping to reduce weight and increase both performance and fuel efficiency.
Again, we have yet to hear exactly what the official aluminum 2017 Ford Raptor EcoBoost V6 engine specs will be, but we’re sure that we will be hearing a bit more about the output as we move closer to the official release date of the next-gen off-road pickup.
