Changes for New Facelifted 2016 Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer continues to be one of the best-selling sport utility vehicles not only in the Ford lineup, but on the market in general, and for that reason, it comes as no surprise that the automaker is always keeping it updated. The popular full size crossover has been in its fifth generation since 2011, and now that it has been five years, Ford is giving the Explorer a serious facelift. Here is what you can expect to see.
Many of the design changes for the new facelifted 2016 Ford Explorer can be found at the front end of the SUV. The entire front fascia has received some cosmetic changes, and there have been some tweaks made to the hood and the lower bumper. Those looking for a touch of the Ford F-150 in their Explorer can also opt for the available LED headlights and fog lamps that both take cues from the best-selling pickup.
The F-150 has also served as inspiration for the newest Platinum trim level of the Explorer. Positioned above the Sport and Limited trims, the Platinum model will be the most advanced in the range, and will take on both a front and rear camera, a hands-free liftgate, 500-watt Sony audio system, heated steering wheel and the same enhanced active park assist feature currently being offered in the 2015 Ford Edge.
Although many design cues have been borrowed from the F-150 and Ford Super Duty trucks, but perhaps the most exciting feature of the 2016 Ford Explorer that has been borrowed is its newest engine option. The facelifted Explorer will be made available with the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that debuted in the all-new Ford Mustang, and that will be making its way to the nose of the Ford Focus RS next year.
When the 2016 Ford Explorer is equipped with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, it has the ability to produce as much as 270 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. With those numbers, the engine offers a set of capabilities that are extremely similar to the returning Duratec 3.5-liter V6. Fuel economy ratings for the newest engine addition have yet to be announced, but we imagine that they will be quite impressive.
If you are interested in learning more about the changes for the facelifted 2016 Ford Explorer, or want to check them out for yourself, you’ll be sure to appreciate that you don’t have much longer to wait. The release date of the 2016 Ford Explorer is scheduled to arrive this summer, which means that it won’t be long before we receive the first 2016 Ford Explorer in Kansas City MO. Be sure to check back here once the temperature warms up if you are interested in taking the newly-updated Explorer for a test drive.
