Engine Options on the 2016 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is one of the most popular models in the Ford lineup, and one of the best-selling compact crossover vehicles in the world. The Escape has already been on the market for 15 years, making it one of the most iconic vehicles in the Ford lineup. The new 2016 Ford Escape is by far the best version of this compact SUV to ever enter production. We have had a lot of people coming into our dealership to ask us questions about the new 2016 Ford Escape that was recently released. One of the things that we get asked about most frequently is the engine options on the 2016 Ford Escape. Therefore, we wanted to take a little time to tell you about all of the different engine options that are offered on the new 2016 Escape.
Ford is offering three unique powertrain options on the new 2016 Ford Escape. The three available engine options are: 2.5L Duratec I-4, 1.6L EcoBoost I-4 and 2.0L EcoBoost I-4. All three of these powertrains offer great performance, solid fuel efficiency and excellent reliability. So you’ll be getting an expertly-tuned powertrain no matter which one you choose.

2.5L Duratec I-4
The base-level engine on the new 2016 Ford Escape is the 2.5L Duratec I-4. This is the only engine option that does not include Ford’s famous EcoBoost technology. However, this standard engine still boasts fairly good performance with its 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. It also gets a respectable fuel economy rating of 22 miles per gallon in the city, and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.
1.6L EcoBoost I-4
The second engine offering is the 1.6L EcoBoost I-4. This powertrain is available on the SE and Titanium trim levels. Both performance and fuel economy get a slight improvement with this engine in comparison to the standard powertrain. The 1.6L EcoBoost I-4 boasts a turbocharger and direct-injection technology to help it produce 178 horsepower with 184 pound-feet of torque. It also gets a fuel economy rating of 23 mpg in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway.
2.0L EcoBoost I-4
This is the engine to consider if you are looking for the best performance possible out of your new 2016 Ford Escape. This 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 is able to pump up an athletic 240 horsepower with 270 pound-feet of torque, which is very snappy. This powertrain is also only available on the SE and Titanium trim levels.
