Features of the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum Model
It was recently announced that the Ford Explorer would be receiving a major facelift for the 2016 model year, and although we have touched on some of the changes that will be made available when the updated full-size SUV arrives this summer, we thought it would be worthwhile to touch on the features of the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum model, which is the newest trim level of the Explorer.
As the name suggests, the Platinum trim will offer some top-of-the-line features. It will be the highest trim, and will be one step above the Sport trim, which previously served as the most feature-filled model of the 2016 Ford Explorer. The XLT and Limited models will also be making a return, but based on what we’ve heard about the Platinum trim, nothing will quite match up to the fully-equipped Explorer.
Some of the biggest changes for the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum model are changes to the exterior. As you may already know if you read our blog post on the changes for the 2016 Ford Explorer, the majority of the new additions are found on the exterior, but that is especially true for the Platinum model, which comes with all of the new changes we discussed before, as well as a few unique ones.
According to Ford, here are a few of the many features that will be found exclusively on the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum model:
- 20″ bright machined-faced wheels with Dark Tarnish-painted pockets
- Premium sterling-silver painted front and rear skid-plate elements
- Distinctive grille with satin-chrome finish
- Leather-wrapped instrument panel with contrast stitching
- Nirvana leather-trimmed Medium Soft Ceramic seats with quilted bolsters and 1st-row “PLATINUM” embroidery
- Leather-wrapped heated steering wheel with contrast stitching and wood inserts
- Two-piece appliques featuring real aluminum and brown ash swirl wood
We recently took a look at the 2016 Ford Explorer four-cylinder engine, which is the same one found in the nose of the all-new Ford Mustang, but it has already been made known that the Platinum model will not be offered with the turbo-four engine. Instead, it will be made available solely with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that was found in past generations of the Explorer, including last year’s model.
If you are interested in learning more about the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum model, we encourage you to check back here on the Matt Ford blog in the near future, as we will be sure to let you know as soon as we receive the facelifted SUV here in Kansas City. Until then, be sure to check out some of our more recent posts on the specs, features and release date of the upcoming 2016 Ford Explorer.
