Differences Between Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus

Two of the best-selling Ford vehicles in the lineup are the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus, as they are two of the smallest offerings. Their smaller size not only helps them both to be affordable, but fuel efficient as well. Seeing as price and efficiency have a lot to do with the decision-making process, it comes as no surprise that the Fiesta and Focus do so well. So what separates the two vehicles? Well, let’s take a look.

There are quite a few similarities between both of the compact vehicles, but as pointing out their likeness can only serve to make the decision more difficult, we will focus on the differences between the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus. That should assist you in determining which of the vehicles is better suited for you.

The biggest difference between the pair of vehicles has all to do with their size. The Ford Fiesta, which is classified as a subcompact car, is smaller than the Ford Focus, a compact car that is one size class above the Fiesta. The size difference is not particularly significant, but when you need space to fit passengers and cargo, there is no arguing that it makes a difference.

With the second-row seat collapsed, the Ford Fiesta—which is offered exclusively as a hatchback—is able to fit as much as 25.4 cubic feet of space. The hatch version of the Focus is able to fit almost as much cargo behind the second row, which allows you to have space for both cargo and passengers. With the seatback collapsed in the Ford Focus, the cargo space expands to an impressive 44.8 cubic feet.

Another one of the differences between the two is their fuel economy. Seeing as the Fiesta is smaller, it comes as no surprise that it’s able to travel further on a gallon of gas, but the Focus is definitely no slacker either. When properly equipped, the Fiesta has the ability to travel as far as 43 mpg on the highway. The Focus is not far behind, however, with an impressive maximum highway fuel economy rating of 37 mpg.

The final big difference between the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus is price. Although both of the base models come in at less than $20,000, the Fiesta boasts a starting price of just under $14,000, making it one of the most affordable vehicles not only in the Ford lineup, but in the market as a whole.
