Here in Missouri we’re lucky enough to have a Ford Assembly Plant in Kansas City. Not only does the plant provide residents of the state with jobs, but as Ford is a generous company, they find ways to give back to the communities where their plants reside. Last week the automaker announced that they would be contributing to a number of community programs in the area, and now we have the details of what those contributions will contain.

Ford will be teaming up with dealers in and outside of Kansas City and will be investing more than $600,000 in education, safety and community programs before the end of the year. The automaker will also be donating a brand-new Ford Transit—a model which is produced right here in Missouri at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo—to The Don Bosco Centers to aid the organization in the distribution of food to seniors and disabled residents living in the Greater Kansas City area.

Jim Vella, the president of Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services, which is the charitable branch of the company, explained that the decision to invest in the Kansas City community just goes to show how far Ford is willing to go to make a lasting difference in the areas that they inhabit.

“This new initiative allows us to adopt a strategic approach to philanthropy that will provide ongoing support to the Kansas City area,” Vella said. “By working jointly with our dealers and nonprofits, we are creating a better world for our employees, their families and the communities where we live and work.”

The push for more community involvement is all part of Operation Better World, an initiative that began back in 2008 and that has now spread to all 19 of the markets that the Ford Motor Company has plants or offices in. Since the initiative began, Ford has already stuck more than $10 million into the community here in Kansas City, and now with the newest announcement, it’s clear to see that the automaker isn’t stopping there.
