How the Ford Dynamic Social Shuttle Ridesharing App Works
As services like Uber are beginning to gain a great deal of popularity, many consumers—especially those in larger cities—choose to utilize ridesharing services rather than purchase their own vehicle. A great deal of automakers are sitting back and watching as their sales numbers drop, but innovative companies such as Ford are embracing the changes. The automaker has been developing an Uber-like ridesharing service, and although it’s not quite ready to go to market, the Dynamic Social Shuttle app could be available soon.
Seeing as the system is still in the development stages, there isn’t too much that is known about its abilities, but to clear up some of the confusion and to answer some of the most common questions that are floating around online, we thought it would be helpful to look at how the Ford Dynamic Social Shuttle ridesharing app works.
Much like other ridesharing apps, travelers who need a ride can open up the app, set their destination and request a pickup. Premium mini-buses connected to the system are then alerted to the traveler and their route is redirected accordingly. Arrival times are then sent back to the traveler through the apps so that they know when to expect the mini bus to arrive, and when they can expect to arrive at their destination.
What is unique about the Dynamic Social Shuttle system is that the minibuses are able to accommodate as many as four to 10 passengers, which means that multiple travelers can be taken at once. Plus, as the system is able to reroute for pickups and dropoffs, the time spent in the minibus is no longer than it needs to be, allowing all travelers to get picked up and dropped off in an extremely timely fashion.
The Ford Dynamic Social Shuttle app will be tested in New York, as well as London to test whether or not it is the right system for the company. According to Ford, the goals are sustainability, vehicle sales and franchise opportunities, and from what we’ve heard so far, we have a feeling that Ford will be successful in their mission. However, we’re still likely a ways away from seeing the system here in Kansas City MO.

We also encourage you to check back here on the Matt Ford blog as we will be sure to keep you updated as soon as we hear more about the app. Let’s hope that the next announcement we have is that Ford will be bringing the system to market. Our fingers are crossed.
