New 2015 Ford Fusion Engine Options

Although Ford has already begun to announce a great deal of information about the many redesigned 2015 models expected to arrive this year, the automaker is also releasing a number of details about the models that will carryover designs from last year’s models, such as the Fusion. Although just about everything remains the same for 2015, we thought we would take a look at the new 2015 Ford Fusion engine options.

Those after a standard gas-burning engine are sure to appreciate the fact that there are three different engines to choose from, all of which offer a different skillset. The 2014 Ford Fusion offered four petrol engines under the hood, but as the 1.6-liter EcoBoost was so similar to the 1.5-liter EcoBoost in terms of size, power and efficiency, it’s not surprising to see that it has been dropped from the engine list.

The engine is capable of making 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of twist, which makes it more than adequate for the base engine. Official fuel economy ratings haven’t been released for the 2015 Ford Fusion, but as power hasn’t changed, it’s likely that the standard engine will still deliver 22 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Power and fuel economy is likely to remain the same for the aforementioned 1.5-liter four-cylinder as well. If that’s the case, the 181-horsepower engine will achieve 37 mpg on the highway when equipped with automatic start and stop. If you’re looking for more power, you’ll find it in the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder which pumps out 240 horsepower and 231 lb-ft of torque—the highest of any Fusion engine.

As you would expect, the most efficient of the four Ford Fusion engine options is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine which is part of the powertrain in both the class-leading Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Ford Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid. The engine makes 141 horsepower in both models, but fuel economy differs slightly. The Ford Fusion Hybrid fuel economy is likely to be the same as last year’s 44 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, and the Energi Plug-In will also probably still pull a gas-only combined rating of 38 mpg.

Seeing as just about everything but the official fuel economy ratings for the 2015 Ford Fusion have been released, we fully expect the sedan to arrive here at Matt Ford in the very near future. To learn more about the Fusion engine options, be sure to check out our blog where we have a great deal of information available. Much of the information is on the 2014 model of the Fusion, however, as the design and powertrain options are being carried over, the power and fuel economy ratings aren’t likely to change.
