Tips to Help Maximize Hybrid Efficiency

It’s common knowledge that hybrid vehicles are extremely fuel efficient, but some are unaware of the fact that the impressive fuel economy ratings that most hybrids boast are just estimates. Depending on the way that the vehicle is driven, the actual efficiency ratings that are returned could be lower and they could be higher. Again, it all depends on the way that you drive. To assist you in getting the most out of your hybrid, we thought it would be helpful to provide you with a few different tips to help maximize hybrid efficiency.

If you scroll down, you’ll find an extremely helpful infographic from Ford which helps to shed a bit more light on getting the most out of your hybrid, but in the interest of time, we will go over a few of the most important of the tips. If you own a hybrid and are confused as to why you’re not getting the same fuel economy ratings that were displayed when you first purchased the vehicle, we highly encourage you to go through the complete set of tips below.

One of the most important factors that involves getting the most efficiency from your vehicle has to do with the way that you drive. If you find yourself putting the pedal to the medal or slamming on your brakes often, there is a good chance that you’re an aggressive driver. By slowing down and allowing your hybrid to accelerate and brake smoothly, the regenerative braking system—which is the system that keeps your battery charged—is able to operate more efficiently, and therefore save you from burning more gasoline.

You are also encouraged to avoid extreme conditions. Scorching hot and freezing cold temperatures keep the lithium-ion battery operating properly, and as the battery powers the electric motor that helps to save you from utilizing the gas engine, keeping it happy is undoubtedly important. For this reason, the Kansas City MO area is a great place for a hybrid. While we do get some hot and cold days, it’s never to the point where it could severely affect the status of your battery

Once again, becoming a more efficient driver and avoiding extremes are just two tips to help maximize the efficiency of your hybrid. For the full list of tips, simply scroll down.
