What is Ford EcoBoost Technology?

Here on the Matt Ford blog we have spent a lot of time discussing the engine options found beneath the hood of every Ford model in the lineup, and if you have been keeping up with the blog, or have been doing some research elsewhere, it’s likely that you’ve you stumbled upon the term “EcoBoost” as a growing number of Ford engines are beginning to take on the technology. So, what is Ford EcoBoost technology? Let’s take a closer look.

There are a few different systems put into place in every single one of the Ford EcoBoost engines. Those that sport the title are direct-injection engines that minimize the total number of cylinders to increase the fuel economy, and equip turbochargers to compensate from the power drop that comes from shedding the total amount of cylinders. It essentially allows four-cylinder engines to deliver the outputs typically found in a V6, and the V6 Ford engines to produce ratings normally found in engines with eight pistons at work.

When compared to naturally aspirated engines, those in the EcoBoost lineup are able to achieve increases in efficiency by about 20 percent. On top of that, the smaller engines spew out a lesser amount of harmful emissions—15 percent less than standard engines to be exact. The engines are just one of of the many reasons that the automaker received the Best Global Green Brand Award from Interbrand.

If you follow the automotive world, you likely know that a growing number of automotive manufacturers are making a push for increased fuel economy, and introducing EcoBoost technology is just one of Ford’s ways of increasing the efficiency of their vehicles. Rather than turning to diesel and hybrid technologies, Ford has produced a way to save fuel and cut emissions while still providing engines that are familiar to car buyers, and for that reason, EcoBoost technology is becoming increasingly popular.

To learn more about the engines, we encourage you to check out some of our posts on the performance of the vehicles in the Ford lineup here on the Matt Ford blog. As we have a ton of information, you can read up on just about every model that now offers EcoBoost technology. We also encourage you to schedule a test drive here at Matt Ford so that you can see what we’re really talking about. Once your foot hits the pedal, you’ll have a difficult time believing that these engines were designed to deliver added efficiency.
