2015 Ford Expedition vs 2015 Chevy Suburban
When it comes to the vehicles in the full-size SUV lineup, you can always expect to find two things. One is space. As these vehicles often offer space for up to eight passengers, there is a ton of room for just about anything beneath the roof. The other common aspect of larger utility vehicles is power. Seeing as the bodies are so large, they require engines that are able to propel them down the road quickly and efficiently. Two of the most well-known full-size SUVs currently on the market are the Ford Expedition and the Chevy Suburban, and while the two are able to deliver both of the aforementioned capabilities, with a closer look at the 2015 Ford Expedition vs 2015 Chevy Suburban, it’s clear to see that one of the SUVs is just simply more impressive.
The Chevy Suburban was completely redesigned for the 2015 model year, and while the Expedition holds onto its signature style, the blue oval encrusted full-size SUV also received a number of tweaks. The most significant change for the Expedition involves the engine. In the past the SUV was loaded with a beefy V8 that didn’t do much more than gulp fuel. That has all been changed. The eight-cylinder has been scrapped completely and replaced with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. As the engine comes turbocharged, it’s able to get horsepower and torque ratings that are more powerful than the excessively large V8 engine found in the nose of the Suburban. Even with two fewer pistons at work, the 2015 Ford Expedition is able to top Chevy’s all-new offering with ease. Official fuel economy ratings for the upgraded Expedition have yet to be released, but they’re expected to greatly surpass the 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway ratings of the Suburban.
Unrivaled Space in the 2015 Ford Expedition
The benefits of the 2015 Ford Expedition don’t end at power and fuel economy. If you are looking for a great deal of space, you’ll find that Ford’s full-size offering is once again the better option. Both of the SUVs are able to take on as many as eight passengers with the seats in the upright position, but when those seatbacks come down, the Expedition offers more of an advantage. At its largest, the cargo area of the Suburban is able to accommodate up to 121.1 cubic feet of gear, which seems impressive, but when you consider the fact that the Expedition EL trim is able to swallow up to 130.8 cubic feet of cargo, it’s quite clear to see which of the SUVs is more versatile. Once again, if storage is what you’re after, the 2015 Ford Expedition is the full-size sport utility for you.
Perhaps the most surprising benefit of the Expedition is that it has a price that is significantly lower than that of the Suburban. With a difference of a little more than $4,000 between the base prices of the SUV, the Expedition is much more affordable, and seeing as you get more truck for your buck, the question of whether the 2015 Ford Expedition or 2015 Chevy Suburban is better has a definitive answer.
